LEWISTON —  Mayor Larry Gilbert will host a four-person panel focusing on climate change, energy and the green economy at 10 a.m. on Thursday in City Council chambers.

The panelists selected by Gilbert include Michael J. Retelle, Bruce Damon, Ian Houseal and Jim Wellehan

Retelle, is a Bates College professor; Damon is the chairman of the city’s energy saving committee; Houseal is a special assistant to the city administrator specializing in energy issues and Wellehan is a local businessman and environmental advocate.

The panel discussion will be videotaped and portions of it may be selected for an Earth Day Network “video tool kit” being put together with the goal of sharing local messages from residents and elected officials on a global level, according to a release issued by the mayor’s office.

“What an opportunity for expertise and creative thinking to be shared not only here in Lewiston but globally,” Gilbert said in a prepared statement. “I appreciate the fact that the Earth Day Network invited the All-America City of Lewiston to be part of this world-wide dialogue.”

The event is billed as “a non-partisan day of learning and activism on behalf of the planet.”
