BUCKFIELD — Selectmen on Tuesday authorized Town Manager Glen Holmes to spend up to $1,200 to get a legal review of the Planning Board’s wind power development ordinance.
Holmes said the ordinance committee had met almost weekly to get the law ready before town meeting. The Planning Board has set public hearings on the ordinance for May 3 and 15.
Holmes said timing is essential as the annual town meeting is June 26.
The ordinance is to regulate development of wind power projects and supports a one-mile setback from any residence.
The board approved the Quarterly Swap Shop report, which showed more than 15,000 pounds of materials had left the shop to be reused. The report said a few more volunteers are needed for two hours a month.

Holmes reported that invitations will be going to town clubs for the Emergency Management Dinner on May 14 at the Buckfield High School. The informational dinner is free but reservations are required. A U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant has made the dinner possible for the residents of Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner. The purpose is to acquaint residents of the capabilities of emergency agencies in the towns. Booths will provide information on what individuals can do to improve preparedness for themselves and the community.

The board authorized Holmes to take $10,000 from the Fund Balance to purchase a larger dump body to put on the sand truck. Holmes said he would put the money on the budget to be repaid to the Fund Balance. He said the new body would carry enough sand for all the roads without having to refill during a storm. The old body will be traded to Hebron for a 12-foot wing plow and $1,000.
Holmes informed the board that he has started paperwork to apply for a Maine Department of Transportation grant to make a half-mile walking trail from behind the Municipal Center to the Recreation Field so children could safely walk to the field without having to go through downtown.
The board adjourned to take a tour of the sand and salt shed.
