Early fiddleheads are being picked along the Sandy River in Farmington this week but Landon Smith of Farmington was ready to go find a new spot Wednesday. Warm temperatures made picking fun but more rain is needed to get the sprouts to open, he said. Smith dumped the half full bucket of fiddleheads into another bucket as he and friends went looking for a better site.

Taking advantage of nearly 70 degree weather Wednesday afternoon in Farmington, Marty Conley of Wilton tried helping his mother, property manager of the Mt. Blue Shopping Center for King Real Estate, by painting islands at the entrances for safety measures. While he walked over to the other island, about 100 feet away, a car pulled up near his work, someone walked over and picked up his roller, paintbrushes and dirty roller tray, then walked back to the car and drove off. Paint’s expensive, he said, but he was astounded by the culprit’s actions.
