I have been deeply saddened and angered by Bishop Malone’s recent withdrawal of funding to the Preble Street Community Center in Portland. This social service agency has, for years, provided a wide array of crucial services to a very needy, deserving population.

After much thought and prayer, I have decided to take some positive action to channel my sadness and anger. I have decided to divert the money I would have tithed to the church into an equivalent monthly donation to the Preble Street Community Center.

This is admittedly a small gesture, but I believe that it is important to act positively rather than to simply complain about injustice.

Perhaps others will find a way to do something that is meaningful to them?
