DEAR SUN SPOTS: Spring is here and that means spring cleaning. The Bethel Historical Society in Bethel will hold its annual St. Never’s Day Sale this year on Saturday, May 29, under the tent on Stan Howe’s side lawn at the corner of Mason and Broad streets.

As usual, items in good condition are being sought, including household goods, furniture, tools, etc. Please, no clothing, computers, tires or other unsellable items. All donations may be left on Howe’s side porch at 18 Broad St. (directly across from the Bethel Inn) or on the back porch of the Society’s O’Neil Robinson House at 10 Broad St. (next door south of the Bethel Library).

Proceeds from this sale help fund the operating costs of the society, so all donations are deeply appreciated. If items need to be picked up, please call the society office at 824-2908 or 1-800-824-2910. — Stan Howe, Bethel

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Nice weather is here, and it’s time to start thinking about the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life events, which are right around the corner. Once again, Jody’s Weekend Warriors will be participating in the Brunswick event, which will take place May 21-22. In two years the team has raised almost $6,000 to help fight this horrible disease, which affects so many people.

This year the theme for the relay events is “Celebrating More Birthdays.” As more funds become available, scientists, doctors and researchers can continue their work in finding treatments and cures for cancer. And each cancer patient or survivor gets to celebrate another birthday.

This year Jody’s Weekend Warriors has a big calendar. We are selling memorial cutouts that can be placed on the calendar to celebrate or remember the birthday of a loved one lost to cancer for $1. Our gigantic yard sale will be held on May 1 at 420 Ridge Road in Lisbon.

Donations would be gladly accepted. If anyone would like to donate items for the yard sale or to purchase a luminary or cutout, please call either Trudy at 353-8579 or Erica at 212-3713. Thank you! — Trudy Duval, Lisbon

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Universalist Church of Greene is getting ready for our annual yard sale to be held on Friday, June 18, and Saturday, June 19. Our sale is one of our fundraisers that allows us to open our doors year-round. Our Sunday school also sells items and food goods to raise money to donate to Heifer International.

This has been important to us in teaching our young members about the value of giving to others in our worldwide community. Your readers have always been a great help to us in our request for donations to help with our sale, so once again we are asking for their no longer wanted items that could still be useful to someone else.

We are unable to take large items unless they can be dropped off at the church. Please call Heidi at 225-5181 or Pat or George at 946-5052 before Saturday, June 12, and we will be happy to arrange to pick up your items or be at the church for you to drop them off. Thank you in advance. — Heidi, Universalist Church of Greene
