FARMINGTON — Jeannette Pomerleau, formerly of Chisholm, Jay, recently celebrated her 100th birthday at Sandy River Nursing Care Center. Her nieces, Laurianne, Maryette and Elaine Castonguay, and other family members planned the party for her.

About 35 family and friends were in attendance.

She was born one of 10 children on April 5, 1910. Pomerleau married at the age of 54 to the late Leo Pomerleau. During the time she was helping to care for her father and five younger siblings she ran a penny candy store in Chisholm. She made her own fudge, taffy and roasted her own peanuts. She also ran the ice cream counter in the store.

“I’m so excited, I never imagined so many people would come to see me,” Jeannette said at her party. “I haven’t done anything except turn 100.”
