Fred Cook Jr.

1935 – 2010

GRAY — Fred “Freddie” Cook Jr. was born in Portland on Nov. 30, 1935, to Fred and Corinne “Cookie” Cook.

He lived in Portland until he moved to Pownal in his youth. Fred lived in Pownal until 1996, until he moved to the Gray area. He lived the remainder of his years in Gray and was well-known in the community. He had a face that would light up when he smiled and a rather mischievous glint in his chocolate brown eyes.

Those who knew him described him as willing to do just about anything, and had a wicked sense of humor. Fred was quite a practical joker.

Fred enjoyed music, bingo and going out to the movies. He never went anywhere without a book or a magazine in his hands. He enjoyed walking long distances, flipping through books and exploring his French culture. Fred loved being around people who speak French. Fred loved to watch sports and was a baseball fanatic. He enjoyed spending his summer nights watching the Red Sox. Until his illness, Fred attended Catholic Mass at St. Phillip’s every Saturday.

Fred is survived by his cousin, Deloris, and her husband, who reside in Southern Maine; as well as many friends.

Fred was predeceased by his father in 1970; his mother in 1990; and his beloved cousin, Catherine Ayer, in 2009.
