PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — About 2,000 homes and businesses are still without power after severe thunderstorms with high winds caused outages across central and northern Maine.
Utility crews were expected to restore power to most customers by the end of Tuesday. Power was knocked out by a Monday afternoon storm that knocked down trees and limbs, power lines and utility poles. The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of more than 55 mph.
Bangor Hydro Electric said about 1,650 of its customers were without power Tuesday afternoon, down from a peak of about 6,500 customers Monday. Central Maine Power had 350 outages, down from a peak of 12,000 late Monday afternoon.
