WINTHROP – The Winthrop Red Sox pounded out 24 hits Sunday in a doubleheader sweep of the Fairfield Rockies, 10-2 and 14-4, in Pine Tree League senior baseball.

Eric Palleschi lead the offensive charge for Winthrop in Game 1 with three hits, including a double off the wall. Torey Carr tamed Rockies hitters, going the distance and scattering five hits with six strikeouts.

Winthrop’s Dennis McHugh and Matt Richardson shared duties from the mound in Game 2, with McHugh picking up the win. Matt McCarthy collected two singles and a double to lead the 13-hit attack.

Other repeat hitters on the day for Winthrop were Sam Shain, Brett Witherell, Mike House, Carr and James Palleschi. Fairfield repeaters included Randy Brodeur and Derek Holt.
