LISBON — Staff at Lisbon Community School are currently gathering information and seeking public interest on a proposed Lisbon School Department prekindergarten program for the 2010-11 school year.

Upon approval by the Lisbon School Committee, the program would be open to children 4 years old on or before Oct. 15. A total of 24 spots will be offered the first year. A lottery system will randomly select 24 names from the parents interested in participating in the program.

The Monday through Friday program will provide half-day services to 12 children in the morning from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m. An afternoon session from 12:30 to 3 p.m. will be provided for another 12 children. Buses will be available to provide transportation only for the 8:45 a.m. arrival time for morning students and for the 3 p.m. dismissal for afternoon students. Parents or daycare providers will be responsible for transportation for both groups at mid-day.

Lunch will not be provided for either the morning or afternoon session. Students will have time each day to eat a snack from home. Snack milk will be available for purchase.

Lisbon residents interested in having a child attend the program may contact Stephanie Doughty at Lisbon Community School at 353-4132 or e-mail sdoughty@lisbonschoolsme.org. Parents and guardians interested in the program will be notified upon approval by the School Committee. An application will be required to complete the process.
