DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Franco-American Heritage Center has hundreds of French books that they would like to send to Father Marc Boisvert’s Orphanage in Haiti. The cost to mail them there would be prohibitive.

If anyone knows of a way that these could be shipped or if anyone hears of any box car being loaded somewhere for Haiti please call us at 783-1585. These are a variety of children’s school books, novels, religious books, as well as numerous miscellaneous books. DEAR SUN SPOTS: I represent American Legion Post 135 in Sabattus. We are seeking families in Sabattus, Leeds, Wales, Litchfield and adjoining towns that have a member serving active duty in the military. We will be hosting a Blue Star Service Banner presentation at our post on June 12 of this year.

Created in 1917, Blue Star Banners were a common sight during both World Wars. Resurrected by the Legion in 2001, the banner is displayed to show that a family member is currently serving in the Armed Forces. We would be honored to present this banner to the families whose members are serving our great nation. This will be a family affair, and all are welcome to attend.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am disabled and have a mobility scooter that is not working. It is a Go-Go model that comes apart to fit in a car trunk. DEAR SUN SPOTS: Many of us do not enjoy the new harder crossword puzzles! The answers can’t be found in the crossword dictionary and that leaves us very frustrated. A 94-year-old lady commented that she decided she is too old to do the puzzles anymore. She is as sharp as can be. She could do the easier ones and enjoyed them for many, many years.

I haven’t lived in the Auburn area for more than 50 years, but faithfully get the “Sun.” Why? Because, as I tell some people, I want to see the obits and do the crossword puzzle. I can get the obits on the computer. To keep us all happy, how about alternating every other day a usual one and then a harder one?

Another possibility would be to put the answers in the same day on another page. Did someone mention previously that you could run two puzzles? The people who want harder puzzles can buy a crossword puzzle book with hard puzzles in them. I have had no luck with several books — either too easy or too hard. The puzzles you used to have were just right.

I must also say I enjoy Sun Spots! There are often answers to questions I haven’t thought of yet, but the answers do come in handy. Keep up the good work! — No Name via e-mail

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For several years, a small group of us have been meeting to play tennis at the Rumford courts. This year we are planning to play in the morning and would like to invite more folks to join us. You don’t need to be a great player but should be at least an advanced beginner or intermediate player.

If you would like to play but can’t always find a partner, you should take advantage of this opportunity to meet new people and have a good time. We will be playing on Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings at 10 a.m. beginning May 3.
