FORT HOOD, Texas — PFC Barry Daniel Smith passed away Friday, May 7, at Fort Hood, Texas. His untimely death was the result of injuries sustained in a single motor vehicle accident.

He was born in Portland, Oct. 3, 1988, to Linda (Stimson) Larrivee and Daniel Smith. He was a graduate of Littleton High School, although he did attend one year at Edward Little High School. After graduating from high school, he attended Hesser College in Manchester, N.H., and graduated with his associates degree in criminal justice. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 2009, and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. After basic training, he attended MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) training at Fort Sills, Okla. He was eventually assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, in the 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery (MLRS) 41st Fires Brigade.

He possessed a larger than life personality and touched everyone he met. He had an abundance of friends and drew people to him like a moth to a flame with his easy smile, infectious laugh and kind heart. Everyone who knew him loved him. He loved the outdoors, hunting and camping with family and friends. He was always up for an adventure and managed to make every adventure exciting. He had a crazy love for cars and trucks, truly anything with a motor. More than anything else, he was “proud” to serve our country in the U.S. Army. He will always be cherished, loved and be deeply missed.

Survivors include his parents, Dan and Shelly Smith of Auburn, and Linda and Jonathan Larrivee of Littleton, N.H.; siblings include, Jordan and Miranda Casey of Auburn, Kyle Kirk and Garrett Grant of Littleton, Amanda Larrivee of Lisbon, N.H., Eric Larrivee and his fiance, Amanda Stickney, of Lancaster, N.H.; maternal grandparents, Nina and David Stimson of Mechanic Falls and Marie Perry of Littleton, N.H.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Jane Smith of Poland and Tim and Diann Murphy of Grayling, Mich., and John Neeley of Munith, Mich.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their support through this tragic ordeal.
