DEAR SUN SPOTS: Like most of the rest of the people of this area, I read your column everyday! I thought it might be helpful for people to know about the grants that are available to all Mainers, regardless of income, for weatherization.

Federal funds are available through the stimulus package to help weatherize homes and lower energy costs. Grants of up to $3,000 are available. For more information and lists of participating contractors and energy auditors, call 866-376-2463 or e-mail efficiencymaine@maine.gov or visit efficiencymaine.com.

The details of the program are simple to understand, but must be followed in order for people to benefit from the program. Please let me know if I can be of further help. Best always. — Rep. Peggy Rotundo, Lewiston House District 74

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Monument Hill in Leeds is one of my favorite places to go when I’m visiting home. I live out of state now. I was wondering, who takes care of the trail leading up to and the area around the monument? — Jenny, No Town

ANSWER: Sun Spots spoke to Jane from the Leeds town office. She said that the land the monument and trail are on is private property, and the owner has given permission for people to visit. No one entity is assigned to maintenance; various volunteer groups, such as the Boy Scouts or historical society, offer to tidy up the trail periodically.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I know you have answered this before. I want a list of full-service gas stations in the Lewiston-Auburn area. I hate to pump my own gas! Thank you for your help. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots spoke to Mr. Grimmel of Grimmel’s Service Station, 681 Lisbon St., Lewiston, 782-9160. He said that his family’s been providing full service for 65 years, and he really enjoys doing it and meeting all the lovely people. He also thinks he’s the only full-service station left in Lewiston. He may be the only one in L-A. Sun Spots called a couple of Auburn stations, but they did not know of a full-service station. Perhaps readers will.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Where can I find heavenly hash ice cream? I used to be able to buy Hannaford brand, but I can’t find it anymore. Do you know of any other company that makes it? Thank you. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: Sun Spots called the local Hannaford’s, where employees told her they thought it was no longer available, but they could not be definite that it was officially discontinued. Sun Spots called Shaw’s, but they don’t carry it either. Perhaps readers will have a suggestion as to where you can find it, or another flavor you might like, perhaps rocky road?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You are doing a great service for the community. Thanks.

We have two directors chairs that we have enjoyed for a few years and are in great shape. We have misplaced the backs, and the chairs are useless without these.

I checked online and found that the replacements are almost the cost of a new chair. If anyone has two of these just taking up space, I would be glad to travel a reasonable distance to get them. I can be reached at 786-0478. Thank you. — Jeannine Pelletier, Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Chick-A-Dee Restaurant at the Turner-Auburn line is celebrating its 75th year in business. We are trying to make a scrapbook with pictures and memories. So if anyone out there met, got married, worked or just has a fond memory of the Chick-A-Dee, please let us know about it. We would love to include it in our book. Please mail your items to the Chick-A-Dee Restaurant, P.O. Box 416, Auburn, ME 04210. Thank you. — Annette Spear, manager

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone out there who knows how to crochet? I would like to have a square design, 11¾ by 12¾ done. I have the pattern. I will pay. Call me at 783-7536. — G. Nadeau, Lewiston
