Wendy Berube, left, of the Androscoggin Head Start program and Jackie Pare, Lewiston schools assistant special education director, box up donated books following the Ready Read celebration and awards breakfast held at the Green Ladle in Lewiston on Friday. The Yellow School Award was presented to five individuals and one agency for their contributions to the reading program: Kathy Stead, Pam Riley Osborn, Joanne Dupuis, Gordon Harris, Eric Bonawitz and Advocates for Children. The Ready Read program is collecting 1,000 children’s books to benefit 100 families. Book collection sites are Shaw’s and Hannaford stores in Lewiston and Auburn.
