Ralph A. Smith

CANTON – Ralph A. Smith, 95, of Jay, died early Saturday evening at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home in Canton.

He was born in Livermore Falls, July 3, 1914, a son of Samuel and Bernice (Mosher) Smith and received his education in Livermore Falls schools. He was employed at International Paper Co., in Jay for many years and was an avid reader of National Geographic and the Sun Journal. He enjoyed exploring, going for rides and was a train lover, having donated a train to the papermaking museum in Livermore Falls.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna Smith and her companion of over 40 years, Edwin Tibbetts, of Jay; a sister, Ida of Texas; and two special cousins, Sherry Judd and Linda Bonnevie.

He was predeceased by his wife, Glennice, whom he married on Oct. 5, 1941, on Feb. 27, 2004; a brother Harold; and a sister, Eva.
