LEWISTON— Dr. Maurice R. Berube of Virginia, a Lewiston native, has released his 13th scholarly book. Co-authored with his wife, Dr. Clair T. Berube, the book, “The Moral University,” examines the ways that universities act morally toward students, faculty, their communities and the nation. It considers the effectiveness of moral reasoning courses and the growth of leadership courses.
It deals with such controversies as moral reasoning courses and the expansion of universities in their communities.
The Berubes also examine how students and faculty are treated, especially in terms of gender bias. The book concludes on a positive note with a model moral university.
Maurice Berube graduated from Fordham University and Union Graduate School. He is Eminent Scholar Emeritus from Old Dominion University. Clair Berube, a graduate of Old Dominion University’s doctoral program, is assistant professor of science education at Hampton University.
Last summer in Lewiston, the Berube family visited Mrs. Laurette (Lachance) Berube, sister of the late famed Maine boxer Maurice “Lefty” Lachance.
