GALAX, Va. — Grover Frederick Kessler, 96, a resident of Wheatland Retirement Center in Hillsville, passed away at Golden Living Center-Blue Ridge Monday, May 17.

He was born Feb. 26, 1914, to the late Frederick and Laura Kessler in Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of World War II, proudly served our country from 1938 until 1942 in the U.S. Navy, where he was a motor machinist’s mate first class. Then he served in the USNR until 1945.

Survivors include one son, William “Bob” Kessler of Galax; one sister, Ida Mae Spaeth of Perkasie, Pa.; two grandchildren, Linda Repetski of North Wilkesboro, N.C., and Sharon Kessler of Croydon, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Billy and Matthew Ellershaw, both of Croydon, Pa., Tarah Repetski of Langhorne, Pa., and Tracey Hartless of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; one great-great-grandson, Aidyn Hartless of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; three nieces, Gertrude Becker and husband, Richard, of Florida, Linda Mentzer and husband, Bill, of Perkasie, Pa., and Carroll Kessler of Pennsylvania; one nephew, Bill Kessler of Pennsylvania; one great-niece, Susan Carmer of Pennsylvania; and one great-nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Decker of Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Winifred Jankiewicz; and second wife, Phyllis Kessler.
