MINNEAPOLIS — Jason Kubel’s sacrifice fly in the 12th inning lifted the Minnesota Twins to an 8-7 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

Jesse Crain (1-0) picked up the victory for the Twins despite issuing a five-pitch walk to Prince Fielder — his fourth of the game — to start the 11th. Crain got the next two guys and struck out Jody Gerut looking to end the inning.

Manny Parra (0-3) issued a leadoff walk to Alexi Casilla. Joe Mauer followed with a single and AL batting leader Justin Morneau walked to load the bases.

One out later, Kubel sent a fly to right fielder Corey Hart, whose throw was off line and not close while Mauer streaked home for the win to raise Minnesota’s home record to 14-6 in front of the largest crowd — 39,152 — in the new ballpark.

Athletics 1, Giants 0

OAKLAND, Calif. — Gio Gonzalez retired his final 20 batters and the Oakland Athletics scored an unearned run to beat Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants 1-0 in the Bay Bridge Series.

An error by first baseman Aubrey Huff set up Coco Crisp’s sacrifice fly in the third inning. The Giants managed only three hits and matched a season high with their fourth straight loss. Gonzalez (5-3) allowed two hits in eight innings. Andrew Bailey struck out Bengie Molina with runners at first and second for his seventh save in nine chances.

White Sox 4, Marlins 1

CHICAGO — Alex Rios hit a two-run homer and Gavin Floyd pitched 6 1-3 sharp innings to help the Chicago White Sox beat the Florida Marlins 4-1.

Rios drove in three runs for the White Sox, who won back-to-back games for the first time since April 25 when they swept the Seattle Mariners. Chicago has only won consecutive games three times this season.

Floyd (2-4) came in the game, allowing five runs or more in each of his last three starts, but he had his best outing of the season against the Marlins. He allowed one run and six hits.

Angels 10, Cardinals 7

ST. LOUIS — Scott Kazmir ended a string of three straight losses with his best outing of the season and the Los Angeles Angels backed him with 13 hits in a 10-7 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Kendry Morales had a pair of RBI doubles for a three-hit game and Mike Napoli had a two-run homer. The Angels have won three of four and became the first team to score in double figures against the Cardinals. Kevin Frandsen also had three hits.

Rockies 3, Royals 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— Jeff Francis and three relievers combined on a six-hitter and Troy Tulowitzki homered to help the Colorado Rockies beat the Kansas City Royals.

Francis, who won 17 games in 2007 and missed all of last season after having shoulder surgery, earned his first victory since Aug. 25, 2008. He held the Royals to five hits over 6 1-3 innings while walking two and striking out three. Francis (1-0) has given up just one run and 12 hits in 13 1-3 innings since coming off the disabled list.

Nationals 7, Orioles 6

WASHINGTON — Adam Dunn’s two-run single capped a sixth-inning rally that carried the Washington Nationals to a 7-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, who wasted a bizarre inside-the-park homer by Adam Jones.

Washington trailed 6-3 before scoring four runs in the sixth against starter Brad Bergesen and reliever Mark Hendrickson (1-2). On an afternoon filled with offensive highlights, the most memorable was the second inside-the-park homer in the three-year history of Nationals Park — and the second in four days.

With a runner on in the fourth inning, Jones hit a drive to deep center that sent Nyjer Morgan to the base of the wall. The ball hit Morgan’s glove and bounced out, and Morgan immediately went into a tirade. While the ball lay behind him, Morgan removed his mitt, slammed it on the ground and stomped angrily on the outfield grass. Left fielder Josh Willingham retrieved the ball, but too late to prevent Jones from circling the bases for Baltimore’s first inside-the-park home run since David Newhan at Boston on July 21, 2004.

Mets 5, Yankees 3

NEW YORK — Jason Bay tied a career high with four hits and David Wright added a pair of RBI singles, backing a sterling performance by Mike Pelfrey and helping the New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 5-3.

Pelfrey (6-1) allowed one run and six hits in six innings for the Mets, who scored all their runs with two outs. Angel Pagan had three hits and pinch-hitter Alex Cora contributed a key RBI single in the sixth at Citi Field. The slumping Yankees left 14 runners on base in their fourth loss in five games.

Reds 6, Indians 4

CLEVELAND — Johnny Cueto won his third straight start and Laynce Nix homered for the third day in a row as the Cincinnati Reds beat the error-prone Cleveland Indians 6-4.

Cueto (4-1) gave up four hits and two runs over six innings as the Reds moved into first place in the NL Central by a half-game over St. Louis. The right-hander improved to 4-0 with a 2.18 ERA in his last five starts.

Cubs 5, Rangers 4

ARLINGTON, Texas — Pinch-hitter Mike Fontenot had the tiebreaking RBI single in the 10th inning and the Chicago Cubs beat Texas 5-4, ending the Rangers’ five-game winning streak.

Darren O’Day (1-2) gave up hits to all three batters he faced in the 10th, when Tyler Colvin had a leadoff double before Kosuke Fukudome and Fontenot both had singles to right to make it 4-3.
