BRUNSWICK — Corbin Hyde limited Brunswick to one hit to help Lewiston top Brunswick, 2-1, in KVAC baseball action Saturday.

The Blue Devils broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth, loading the bases on hits by Trey Ouellette and Ben Wigant and a walk to Conroy LeBlond. Pinch hitter Joe Sullivan then delivered a single to drive home what proved to be the winning run.

Hyde struck out two while going the distance and the Blue Devils (8-4) committed just one error behind him. Wigant had two hits and Jeff Keene added a pair of hits, including a double, for Lewiston. Steve Carter scattered eight Lewiston hits over seven innings but took the loss for the Dragons (6-6).

Buckfield, Valley split pair

BINGHAM— Cody White clubbed three doubles and picked up the win as Buckfield took Game 1, 13-1, then dropped Game 2, 8-7, in an EWC doubleheader Saturday.

The Bucks pounded out seven doubles as part of their 18-hit attack in the first game. Alan Hedrick had a pair of two-baggers, while Isaac Smith, Austin Dooley (three hits) and Trevor Averill (three hits) added one each. Jarek Boyd and Jeff Pepin, hampered by a bad leg, cracked two hits each, while Smith and White combined on the mound to limit Valley to just three hits.

The Cavaliers returned the favor in Game 2, snuffing a three-run Bucks rally in the seventh to win, 8-7. Caleb Wade had three hits and Nathan Schulz and Seth Malloy added two apiece to lead Valley (2-8). Dalton Hart, Averill, Smith, Boyd, Dooley and Pepin picked up two hits apiece for the Bucks (2-8).

Softball

Brunswick 4, Lewiston 3

BRUNSWICK — Brunswick rallied  for two runs with two outs to take the lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 4-3 victory over Lewiston in KVAC softball action Saturday.

Singles by Carly Denis and Katie Dumais helped give Lewiston a 3-2 lead in the third, but Brunswick answered with RBI singles from Rachel Maroney and Mel Bryant to take the lead. Laura Blier made it stand up, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out five for the Dragons (3-9). Katie Dumas also yielded five hits and two walks and fanned four for the Blue Devils (0-12).

Rangeley, Greenville split

RANGELEY — Greenville and Rangeley each overcame big deficits to earn a split of a high-scoring doubleheader Saturday, 18-17 Rangeley in Game 1 and 16-14 Greenville in Game 2.

Rangeley scored eight runs in the seventh to pull off the come-from-behind 18-17 win. Eighth-grader Tori Letart drew a walk with two out and the bases loaded to bring home the winning run. Sandra Campbell, Devon Fay and Abby Abbott collected four hits apiece for Rangeley, while Sandra Campbell shut down Greenville in relief to pick up the win. Michaella Gilbert led Greenville with four hits.

Greenville found itself in a 9-1 hole in the second inning of Game 2 but rallied for eight runs over the final two frames to manage a 16-14 win. Gilbert had three hits, including a home run while Holly Hersey and Emma Wilson knocked three hits apiece for Greenville (6-3). Dagmar Weatherill and Meagan Crossin smacked three hits each while Savanna Giguere added a pair of hits, including a double, and Jenny Abbott homered for Rangeley (6-3).
