DEAR SUN SPOTS: Just like the Social Security statement that is sent to us each year, I feel that a credit score statement should be free as well. I know that there are ads that say that the credit reports are free but, they’re not. Can anyone out there respond to this issue? — James Page, Wilton

ANSWER: You can get a copy of your credit report free once a year. The following is posted at www.ftc.gov, “The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months. … The three nationwide consumer reporting companies have set up a central website, a toll-free telephone number and a mailing address through which you can order your free annual report. To order, visit annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-322-8228.”

Warning: You must visit this specific site for your free report. Companies have set up other websites (for example, www.freecreditreport.com) that are not actually free.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone know when or where the 30th reunion of Lewiston High School class of 1980 will be? — No Name via e-mail

ANSWER: You can find all about your reunion at www.alumniclass.com/lewiston/class-reunions. You must register first, so Sun Spots, who did not attend LHS, doesn’t know all the details. Other alumni will undoubtedly respond though.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are in need of the sheet music to “One Pair of Hands,” written by Carroll Roberson. We would like to use the song in church as special music. If anyone has it, I am willing to pay for it, or if they don’t want to part with the music, a copy will be OK. I can be reached at 688-4796. Thank you. — Laura Merrill, Durham

ANSWER: If no one responds, there are also several online sources for sheet music. In December, another reader also responded to a similar Sun Spots question with a detailed description of some places readers could write for sheet music. Unfortunately, that letter was published during some difficulties with the Sun Journal’s website and isn’t online. If the writer sees this, perhaps she will resend the information.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Foster Carroll Post 72 of the American Legion in South Paris is seeking families in South Paris that have a current active duty member in the military, National Guard or Reserves serving our country for a blue star alert. The window flags with the blue star will be presented to qualifying families at the Sept. 8 meeting.

Blue Star Banners were a common sight during both world wars. Please write to American Legion Foster Carroll Post 72, P.O. Box 215, South Paris, ME 04281, at your earliest convenience with information regarding your son, daughter or family member, including name, address, telephone number, present duty station and branch of service. This is important so that the correct number of banners can be ordered.

Today our community is blessed with outstanding men and women serving in uniform on our behalf in the war against terrorism. They are our neighbors, friends and relatives, and are sharing the burden of battling terrorism around the globe with the active duty forces. Together as a community, let us personally thank them. — Audrey Banks via e-mail
