PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Police in Maine’s largest city are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man who was assaulted while he was walking in Portland with a friend.

The office of the Maine Medical Examiner identified the victim as 24-year-old Eric Benson of Westbroook.

Police say Benson was assaulted by three men early Sunday in Monument Square.

A female walking with the victim told police the victim was confronted by three men.

One suspect is described as a male 20 to 30 years of age who was wearing a yellow shirt and baggy jeans with a hip-hop style flat brim hat.
