AUBURN – Poisson’s recorded its fourth victory of the season, defeating VFW, 13-10, in the major baseball division of New Auburn Little League.

Cameron Dubay and Alex Cook led the offense for Poisson’s, driving in three runs each. Bryce Lebel recorded five strikeouts as the starting pitcher. Zach Boyd and Andre Coachman pitched solid relief at the end of the game.

Garrett Vachon led VFW, scoring twice and belting an RBI double. Brandon Case recorded two hits and drove in a run. Jason Cote got on base three times for VFW.

South Lewiston

LEWISTON – Hammond Lumber avenged its only loss of the young season with an impressive 17-0 win over Gendron’s Mobil in a baseball clash.

Hunter Landry and Gordon Beckwith combined to pitch well for Gendron’s, but the Hammond bats would not be denied. Garret Poussard led the attack with two inside-the-park home runs. Ryan Bell added a single and two triples. Cooper Millett went 2-for-2 and scored four runs. Dominic Fournier and Noah Jalbert also contributed at the plate.

Jacob Strout picked up the win for Hammond, giving up four hits, walking none and striking out seven in his gem. Bell and Colby Bilodeau made outstanding defensive plays to secure the shutout.

Hammond faced off against Aroostook Fence on Monday night with first place in the balance.

Chandler Security Systems, Inc. rolled up 34 hits, with each player in the lineup chalking up at least two, in a minor softball victory. Stephanie Rodrigue, Elizabeth Perkins and Julia Paquette each sparked the defense with an outstanding putout.

LEWISTON – Dube Flower doubled up United Ambulance, 10-5, in Elliot Ave. Little League major baseball action.

Owen McCarthy registered six strikeouts en route to his second victory of the season. Nicholas Harndon finished off the game for Dube by recording five strikeouts of his own. Jacob McBride went 2-for-3 at the plate, including two runs scored. Izrael Ferrell and Nicholas Harndon also scored two runs apiece for Dube. Matt Gaudette drove in two with his single in the fourth inning.

Isaac Escobar tripled and scored a run for United. Other key scorers for United were Kristin Sostre, Ryan Bossie and Tommy Turgeon.

In another majors confrontation, Elite Auto put an end to a brief losing streak Saturday afternoon by dispatching United Ambulance, 15-8.

Jared Rubin (fourinnings, four hits, seven strikeouts) and Damien St. Pierre (two inningsm two hits, four Ks) were a stellar pitching combination. A spate of early fielding errors led to a 6-0 Elite lead after the first inning. They added three more in the second and another three in the third to go up 12-0.

United rallied in the fourth on successive singles by Eddie Turgeon, Keenan Lynch and Ryan Bossie to make it 12-3.

Aggressive base running (seven steals) by Elite played a large part in its success. Sean Lake led all hitters, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Nick Poland contributed two RBIs. Nate Mercier cranked a double, while Ben Chasse, Rubin and Evan Cox each had a hit. United, playing the second half of a doubleheader, was led by Escobar’s RBI double. Grant Hartley and Tommy Turgeon had a hit apiece. Lynch took the hard-luck loss for United.

Auburn Suburban

AUBURN – Pepsi picked up three Auburn Suburban Little League major division baseball victories last week.

On Tuesday, Pepsi got strong pitching from C.J. Jipson in an 11-1 verdict over Austin’s. Gavin Bates led the offense with a pair of hits, while Justin Keaney pitched well for Austin’s and also had a double. Donovan Covert was solid on defense for Pepsi as was Bobby Shelley for Austin’s.

Pepsi broke open a close game with HRH by scoring eight runs in the fourth inning Thursday on its way to a 13-2 victory. Jipson singled, tripled and homered for Pepsi, leading a 12-hit attack. Other repeat hitters for Pepsi were Drew Lashua, Ryan Kappelman and Eli McBride. McBride tripled with the base loaded in Pepsi’s big fourth inning. Cole Butler was solid on the mound and at the plate for HRH with two hits.

East Auburn’s late rally Saturday wasn’t enough to deny Pepsi a 10-7 triumpg. East Auburn’s Austin Cullerton smacked a three-run homer in the sixth inning to make it close, but Pepsi was able to retire the next batter to preserve the victory. Jarod Norcross-Plourde led the Pepsi offense with a pair of hits, including a double. Matt Verrill shined both at the plate and on the mound for East Auburn, pitching four strong innings and collecting three hits at the plate. Drew Tiner was tough on defense for Pepsi. Dillon Hummes was solid behind the plate for East Auburn.

Aaron Perkins of Rowe Ford hit for the cycle, including two triples, and made a great grab in left field to highlight a hard-fought minor division battle with Hammond Lumber.

Rowe also received four hits from Robbie Marcotte and three each from Seth Kolreg, Tyler Libby, Nick Martinez and Chase Martin. Defensively for Rowe, Ethan Rombalski played solid at first base, and Colby Levesque made a nice play at third. Hammond received a great game from Iain Frumiento with four hits and two great plays at shortstop. Spencer Merrill contributed a great play from the mound. Nick Allen Smith banged out three hits.

American Concrete edged M&P Auto in a high-scoring minor baseball game.

Hunter Langlois and Lee MacHenry held back American with nifty catches for M&P, while Joey Leavitt retaliated with a nice grab at first base.

Joey Leavitt, Anson Perry and Jake Arel of American each cranked a triple. Jack Howaniec, Keegan Pelletier, Drew Bennett, Hunter Langlois, Oliver Hall, Zak Purcell and Lee Henry scored the M&P runs. Nathan Bartshe, Jacob Hodgman, Bobby Tremaine, Anson Perry, Jake Arel, Austin Brown, Marius Morneau and Tyler Jalbert answered for American.
