PARIS — The Paris Police Department arrested a 36-year-old woman early Tuesday morning on charges that she threatened another woman with a shotgun.

Michelle D. Penley of Paris Hill Road in Paris was charged with criminal threatening and reckless conduct. According to a report by officer Raymond Paar of the Paris Police Department, Penley was arrested after officers received two reports of shots fired near her residence.

Paar said Amanda Brulotte, whose age was not given, told police that Penley pointed a shotgun at her and threatened to shoot her if she did not leave her property. Brulotte said Penley fired the weapon as she was walking away.

Penley was taken to the Oxford County Jail by Chief Robert Federico of the Norway Police Department.

Officer James Richardson assisted Paar in arresting Penley. Paar said Penley was starting her vehicle when they arrived, and the officers with weapons drawn ordered her out of the vehicle because they did not know the location of the shotgun. Penley told the officers that the weapon was in the basement of her residence. Penley said Brulotte was “trashing” her residence and she didn’t know what to do, so she fired some rounds into the air with the shotgun to get her to leave.

Penley was released from the Oxford County Jail on Tuesday after a judge granted her a personal recognizance bail in the South Paris District Court. She must not use alcohol or possess dangerous weapons, submit to random searches for weapons and searches upon articulable suspicion for alcohol, and have no contact with Brulotte.
