PORTLAND — University of Maine Cooperative Extension Educator Kathy Savoie has announced the summer “Preserving the Harvest” workshops. The hands-on food preservation workshop will teach participants the basics steps for canning and freezing.

The leader will be Kate McCarty, program aide; Kathy Savoie, MS, RD; or a Master Food Preserver from the extension. Participants need to bring a potholder to the class. Those attending will receive resource materials. The materials fee is $10 each person and scholarships are available. The local workshops dates are as follows:

Wednesday, June 16, from 1 to 4 p.m., at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 214 Main St., Bridgton. Registration deadline is Wednesday, June 9.

Thursday, June 24, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at American Legion Post 86, 15 Lewiston Road, Gray. Registration Deadline is Thursday, June 17.

Tuesday, June 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. or from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at University of Maine Cooperative Extension Androscoggin/Sagadahoc County office, 24 Main Street, Lisbon Falls. Registration deadline is Tuesday, June 22.

Thursday, July 15, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at University of Maine Cooperative Extension Oxford County office, 9 Olson Road, South Paris. Registration deadline is Tuesday, July 8. Call 743-6329 or 1-800-287-1482.
