LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will host PAWS for a Cause on Saturday, June 5, a dog walk to benefit women’s programming at the YWCA, including “Unleash,” a new human/canine recreation program. Check-in for the walk will begin at 9 a.m.

The 1.5-mile walk route will begin at the Turner Street Shopping Plaza in Auburn, go up Mount Auburn Avenue onto Gracelawn Street, down Turner Street, ending back at the shopping plaza.

Local businesses, vendor demonstrations, shelters, rescues and wellness activities for dogs and walkers will be at the event grounds all day. A morning “canine cafe” will offer free coffee and breakfast items for humans and dogs. There will be a doggie social prior to the start of the walk.

The “doggie diner,” featuring hot dogs and all the fixings will open after the walk for lunch. Participants can also enter raffles and contests including: Amazing Trick, Owner/Dog Look-Alike, A Face Only a Mother Could Love, Prettiest/Most Handsome and a Costume Contest.

Walkers are asked to preregister with the YWCA by calling 795-4050 or by completing a registration form at www.ywcamaine.org. The rain date for the walk is June 6. PAWS for a Cause dog walk commemorative bandannas and doggie goodie bags will be given to the first 200 dogs with pledges over $100.
