LEWISTON — Rita R. Landry, 84, resident of Schooner Estates since October of 2009 and formerly 120 Walnut St., died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, May 30, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center of conjestive heart failure.
Born in Lewiston on May 26, 1926, a daughter of the late Arthur and Theodore Bergeron Tancrede, she was educated in Lewiston schools.
She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul and worked in food service for the City of Lewiston school department, retiring in 1991.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed candlepin bowling, playing cards, camping, attending plays and concerts, and going out to eat with her husband, Al, and friends.
She will be remembered for her positive attitude, never-ending support, generosity, and love of children.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Albert E. Landry of Lewiston, whom she married May 30, 1953; four daughters, Gloria Laroche and her husband, David, Rachel Melanson and her husband, William, Sonia Landry, and Denise Melanson and her husband, Daniel, all of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Denis Wing and his wife, Kathy, Angela Bryant and her husband, Butch, and Matthew, Sierra and Brianna Melanson; three great-grandsons, Christopher Stanley, Austin Wing and Dalton Wing; and a sister Priscilla Roy and her husband, Gerard, of Colorado.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Carmen Poirier, Anita Paradis and Stella D’Amour; and a brother, Robert Tancrede.
