CARTHAGE — New England Celtic Arts will present Tidal Wave at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center on Sunday, June 6. Since 2003, Tidal Wave has evolved as a dance band, carrying through time the most relevant aspect of Quebec traditional, instrumental music — playing live at dances.
The musicians’ liveliness and outgoing personalities have led them to teach workshops and school programs in addition to performing concerts.
Sabin Jacques began playing the accordion at age 14. Influenced by such musicians as Simard, Bruneau, Labbé, Messervier and Montmarquette, his skill as a left-handed player is his signature.
Rachel Aucoin first appeared as the pianist in Domino, giving her a solid experience as a dance back-up musician. She has recorded with American fiddler Laura Risk, Vermont-based singer-songwriter Michèle Choinière and many other Québécois masters.
Stuart Kenney has a long career in many traditional music genres. He cut his Cajun teeth with the legendary Dewey Balfa, performing with him for many of his Northeast appearances.
Eric Favreau comes from a family of traditional musicians and has spent much time playing with other fiddlers, learning their repertoire and studying their varied styles. Over the years, he has garnered an impressive understanding and knowledge of Québécois traditional music.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. There will be a preshow jam session starting at 6:15 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam for a few minutes with the performers. Tickets are $10 at the door. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive. For more information, call 562-4445 or visit www.necelticarts.com.
