FARMINGTON —Hazel H. Bean Small, 98, of Chesterville, formerly of Vienna, passed peacefully Monday afternoon, May 31, at the Sandy River Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

She was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Cambridge, the daughter of Ivan and Nora (Adams) Ham. She was a teacher at the Seavey Corner School, North Vienna School, and the West Mt. Vernon School. A woman of great faith, she served as the organist at the Vienna Baptist Church since 1930 and has been the organist at the North Vienna Church since 1986.

She is survived by her five children; Harold Bean and his wife, Marilyn of Vienna, Louise Bean Hinkley and her husband, John, of Chesterville, Florence Bean Gould of Lisbon, Glenice Bean MacDonald and her husband, Bill, of Lisbon, N.Y., and Celia Bean Cyr and her husband, Jerry, of Hampton, Conn.; a sister, Arvene Yakemore, of W. Simsbury, Conn..; two stepsons, David Small and his wife, Caroline, of Norridgewock and Ronald Small and his wife, Joan, of Farmington; 14 grandchildren; 4 stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Clarence Bean, on Jan. 9, 1987; and by her second husband, Chester Small, who died on Aug. 2, 2000; three sisters and a brother, Helen Littlefield, Rachel Sprague, Ruth Thomas and Wesley Ham.
