AUBURN — Irene R. Cass, 85, formerly of 606 Sabattus St. in Lewiston and Clover Manor Living Center in Auburn, died Monday afternoon at Clover Manor Health Care Facility, with family at her side.
She was born in Lewiston on Aug. 19, 1924, a daughter of Lucien and Rosilda (Rousseau) Martel. She was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. On Nov. 9, 1946 she married William N. Cass of Auburn, who predeceased her Nov. 3, 1987. Following her marriage to Bill, she worked as a homemaker as they raised their four children and was also part owner and worked as bookkeeper for the business she and her husband owned, known as Spic and Span Drycleaners. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Lewiston Senior Citizens.
Among her favorite enjoyments were spending quality time with her family and grandchildren, sewing, cross-stitching, dancing, and watching golf on TV. She had a remarkable sense of humor and loved to laugh and have a good time. She was a loving, devoted and hard-working wife, mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed.
She leaves a daughter, Donna Gagnon, and husband, Danie,l of Augusta; two sons, Richard Cass, and wife, Linda, of Lewiston, and William C. Cass and wife, Jeannine, of Sabattus; two grandsons, Brian J. Gagnon, and his fiancee, Kara Tremblay, and Derek D. Gagnon and his fiancee, Stephanie Bazinet; two granddaughters, Amy Trask and Jessica Morrisette and husband, Gerry; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, William N. Cass; a son, James K. Cass; a sister, Muriel Martel, and a brother, Paul Martel.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Clover Manor for the care, kindness and love shown to Irene during her years there.
