AUGUSTA — James L. Gagnon Sr., 68, a resident of Squire Court in Winthrop, died May 30, at Maine General Medical Center after a three-month stay.

He was born Feb. 26, 1942 in Lewiston, the son of Dominique and Esther Dyer Gagnon. He was educated in the Lewiston schools. On Dec. 25, 1959 in Leeds, he married Roberta R. Burnham, of Leeds. He had been employed by Reynolds Tree Service; Androscoggin Sheriff’s Dept.; Crow Rope; and retired from Carlton Woolen Mills in Winthrop. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with his wife, kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, of Winthrop; three sons, Dominique, of Augusta, James, Jr., of Wayne, and Michael and his wife, Kassie, of China; five daughters, Deborah Perry and her husband, David, of Greene, Penny LeVigne and her husband David, of Winthrop, Wendy Bolding and her companion, Dan, of Lewiston, Diane Chadburne and her husband, Brent, of Caratunk and April James and her husband, Robert, of Va.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Roberta A. Gagnon, in 1989; two brothers, Morris and Howard Gagnon; a sister, Geraldine Provencher; and a sister-in-law, Marion Burnham Gagnon.
