I read in the May 27 Sun Journal the story “Man gets 13 years for sexual abuse.” I also have read in the court news about the countless young people sent to jail for violating the law related to using cannabis. Evidently, the prisons are overflowing.
I suggest that society would be better served if the cannabis offenders were released and, in their place, incarcerate pedophiles … for life.
Mental health experts agree that pedophiles are not changed or “cured” by treatment or incarceration. They simply repeat their hideous behavior once released from jail.
A 13-year sentence seems to be inadequate punishment for having robbed a young child of his/her innocence and joy of living, but more important is the fact that a 13-year sentence does nothing to protect the next victim.
