HARTFORD — The Board of Selectmen voted Thursday night to award a one-year contract for snowplowing to Maynard Farrar and Sons of Sumner for $2,700 per mile.
Farrar has four plow trucks, one loader and would use more equipment if needed.
Board Chairwoman Lee Holman said this was a lower bid than they anticipated and the winter road budget would be reduced by a small amount.
The board had originally asked for a nine-year contract, but when two bids came in for fewer years, the board did not accept either. After some discussion, members requested bids for only one year, according to Holman.
Holman sought a new Town Hall use policy, but Selectman Zoe Cowett said there was no need and the present policy covered the uses.
Holman said the present policy states that any town resident can rent the hall for $75 for nonprofit use. She said some groups were nonprofit, but individuals in those groups were making money on sales.
Cowett made a motion to reaffirm the present policy and it passed 2-1 with voting no.
Constable Chuck Merritt reported that on May 29 a resident reported a large group on the town beach with a bonfire and alcohol being consumed. He said he found one resident there drinking in the company of his young daughter. He issued the parent a no trespass order, which the board voted to uphold.
Dam Committee member Judy Hamilton announced there will be a hearing on the new dam on Lake Anasagunticook at 6:30 p.m. June 15 at the Canton Community Building. A cleanup around the dam area is scheduled for 8 a.m. June 19.
