AUBURN — Marion E. Walker Hammond, a former resident of 33 Sullivan Road in Greene and Schooner Estates in Auburn, passed away at The Hospice House on Monday, May 24, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on April 9, 1920, to Charles W. Walker and Bessie Bubier Walker. She married Russell P. Hammond Jr. on Aug. 9, 1942. Together they raised four children. She worked for many years as a nurse, and then at Raytheon; JC Penney; and Knapp Shoe. Her favorite pasttimes were spending time with family and friends, eating desserts and lobster, crocheting quilt squares for the Catholic Charities of Maine and volunteering thousands of hours for CMMC. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Greene for decades. She will long be remembered for her love of anything purple and her infectious laugh. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Theriault and her husband Linden of Greene; Carol Hawkes and her husband Edward of Port Charlotte, Fla.; her sons, Gary Hammond and his wife, Martha of Sidney; and Charles Hammond and his wife, Carolyn of Greene; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Villa Lavorgna of Windham, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her stepmother, Lynda Hathaway Walker; her husband, Russell, in 1995; a grandson, Linden R. Theriault; a brother, Charles A. Walker; her sisters, Faith Halliday and Althea Walker; and a stepsister, Audrey Bradford.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Boulanger; the nurses on C2 at St. Mary’s Hospital; Dr. Roger Austin and the nurses at the Hospice House for their love and caring for Marion in her final weeks.
