Farm guide
FARMINGTON — The 2010 edition of “Mabel’s Book: Western Maine’s Guide to Farms and Farm Markets” is now available. Published by the Western Mountains Alliance with annual support from businesses and nonprofits in the region, the book has information on more than 80 farms and farm markets.
The book features information on where to get local food, where to find farms that accept WIC and EBT cards and what’s in season.
The free guide is available at area stores, libraries and town offices or by contacting the Western Mountains Alliance at 778-3885 or [email protected]. The book is also available for download by visiting www.westernmountainsalliance.org.
Scholarship dance
MECHANIC FALLS — The Rock-O-Dundee Riders Snowmobile Club of Oxford will hold their annual Scholarship/Cabin Fever Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, June 11, at the Silver Spur Club, Route 121. The band will be The Rockin’ Road Runners with Curtis McAllister from Buckfield.
Admission is $10 each person and a 50/50 will be drawn. Each year the club gives two $500 scholarships and the dance is the major fundraiser for the scholarships. For more information or for reservations, call Suzanne at 539-2616 or Ann at 539-2322.
Annual meeting
LEWISTON — Community Concepts Inc. will hold its annual board of directors meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at DaVinci’s Restaurant, 150 Mill St. Lewiston. All meetings are open to the public. For more information, call 739-6564.
Society meeting
WATERFORD — The Waterford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 10, in the Old Town House next to Keoka Lake. There will be an election of trustees and a program on summer camps for kids in Waterford.
Featured speaker will be Bobby Strauss of Camp Wigwam, which celebrates its centennial in 2010. Potluck refreshments will follow.
A buffet dinner will be held on Saturday, June 19, at Birch Rock Camp, with tours of the camp and music by the Vocal Solution. Reserved tickets must be confirmed by the annual meeting. The annual art show, on Sunday, July 25, will be a photography show featuring both the many farms and camps in town. A tour of barns in Waterford will happen in August.
Supper and dance
LOCKE MILLS — A supper and dance will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, at the American Legion Hall. The supper will be by the American Legion Auxiliary and music for the dance by Boulder Ridge. Doors will open at 4 p.m. Cost for adults is $10; children, $3.
