A Sun Journal news item, “Rumford voters get some answers” (May 28), contained the following paragraph: “All six said they strongly support regionalization, but only Anastasio said he wants Rumford and Mexico to merge into one town.”
That is not correct.
While I stated that I think regionalization is a no-brainer and that it needs to be done, I also indicated that I would like to see an in-depth study done to determine if it would financially be in the best interest of the two towns to merge. I further indicated that with the declining populations of both towns, now might be the right time to merge, providing both towns benefit from a merger.
At the present time I am not for, or against, a merger of the two towns, but honestly believe that it is something worth investigating.
Anything we can do to get the rising town budget, and rising taxes, under control needs to be strongly looked at.
Frank Anastasio, Rumford
