On June 8, a new ordinance, Article 11, “Prohibition of locomotives idling in residential limits,” will be voted on. The ordinance is intended to protect the citizens, especially those at Smith Crossing, from noise and fumes within a residential area.
Idling can go on for 30 to 70 hours at a time, seemingly for no reason. Passage of the ordinance would limit locomotive idling to three hours, or at least 1,000 feet from homes.
We hope others will join us in support of this law.
