PARIS — A group of seniors gathered recently at the home of Beryl Oja in North Paris. The group consisted of 20 friends and their spouses who had all attended the North Paris two-room schoolhouse. The group spent the afternoon sharing stories and reminiscing, some memories dating back to the late 1920s through the 1940s.

The former students came down to the North Paris school from the Tuell Town section of North Paris as well as the “village kids.” The group shared stories about growing up during the Great Depression, swimming in the old swimming hole in the summer and skating on the pond in the winter. Some people in the group thought that it was fun to tread hay in the Ellingwood’s hayrack and drive their cattle up the lane.

They recalled hanging May baskets during May and playing in the old Cooper Shop.

Oja and her sisters provided lunch for the group.

Those attending were Evelyn Ellingwood Chamberlain, Suzie Ellingwood Abbott, Ina Ellingwood Grover, Earl and Amy Andrews, Merwyn and Florence Andrews Whynot, Carolyn Stevens Hill, Toivo and Doris Komulainen, Hugo and Gloria Komulainen, Elvi Komulainen Morin, Mina Komulainen, Maurice (Bud) Pierce, Alice Pierce Keddy, Nina Pierce Hayes, Maxine Pierce Roak and Geraldine Pierce DeShon.
