WEST PARIS — Fire Chief Norman St. Pierre presented life-saving awards to Warren and Fern Fellows of North Paris in honor of their quick action of warning their neighbors, Dan and Debra Trowbridge, of fire in their home.
At the June 2 ceremony, St. Pierre said their actions most likely saved the lives of the Trowbridges, as it gave them time to evacuate their home on 51 North Paris Road ahead of the quick-moving fire.
Following the presentation, Dan Trowbridge said he looked out at his garage after Warren Fellows called and warned him of the fire, and the garage was white hot with his and his wife’s cars ablaze.
“It was so hot there wasn’t any smoke,” he said.
As explained by Warren, Fellows happened to notice an orange glow across the road and discovered the fire. He then called across to warn the Trowbridges of the fire while his wife, Fern, called 911.
Two West Paris firemen were passing the home and also saw the fire. They drove quickly to the fire station and returned with a firetruck and crew, which was on the scene in about 3 minutes.
In the end, the house was a total loss. Two cars and a pickup truck were destroyed, but they were able to save much of the Trowbridges’ personal belongings.
Dan Trowbridge praised the firemen, saying, “Thanks to our neighbors, you firemen and the good Lord, my wife and I are alive and well today. You guys did an amazing job.”
