CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon disrupted power for parts of Carrabassett Valley, said police Chief Scott Nichols.

Traveling south on Route 27, Benjamin Stevens, 21, of Jackman apparently was driving faster than the speed limit, 75 mph in a 50 mph zone, in what is locally known as the “S” turns, a section of twisty turns south of Sugarloaf, he said.

He lost control of his 2009 Silver Ford pickup about 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, went off the road, rolled the vehicle and knocked out a telephone pole, causing a loss of power in sections of Carrabassett Valley, Nichols said.

Stevens was alone in the vehicle and not injured but faces charges of imprudent speed and driving under the influence, he added.

The vehicle was a total loss. The accident was investigated by Officer Matt Hunt of the Carrabassett Valley Police Department.
