When Mik Morrisey decided to take down some trees in front of his house on Perkins Ridge Road in Auburn recently,  his creative juices took over. The shape and texture of the wood inspired him to do something creative with it instead of chopping it up for firewood. Propping the pieces on the stumps, it not only was a work of art, but after a few days of moving them around, they now serve as a sundial.

“Music and art sustain my life” said the L.L. Bean web designer. “There is a parallel between art and music, and it is this creative pasttime that drives me.”

When he was 9 years old, he became interested in music and learned to play piano on his own.  He has worked several jobs, including as a piano technician, but they all were connected to arts and entertainment.

His interests range from sculpture to photography, with music being a major force in his life.  He has played in several bands and his artwork fills his home. “It’s the fine details that make all the difference in art and music — attention to detail.”

To relax, he grabs his guitar and sits on a stump, or on his deck or out back of his home, which sits on top of a ridge with an inspiring view.
