HARRISON — Recreation Director Paula Holt has announced that the 15th annual Recreation Department’s Fun, Friends & Fitness day camp program kicks off June 21 and runs through Aug. 12.
Holt said this year the camp is staffed with counselors ranging from high school students to longtime camp counselors.
Returning Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School students are Melissa Strauss, who will serve as a counselor for girls and boys in the 8- and 9-year-old age group. She enjoys running track and will enter her senior year at OHCHS.
Courtney Tift will enter her junior year at OHCHS in the fall. This will be her second summer as a swim aid assisting the swim instructors. Courtney said she is ready to get started.
Angel Paglierani joins the waterfront staff for the first time as a swim aid. She will be a sophomore at OHCHS next fall, and said she can’t wait to assist the swim instructors.
Hadley Hurd will be graduating from OHCHS this June and will take a year off to travel. She has been a swim aid for two years and will be working on her WSI certification this June so she can teach with Johannah and Kaitlin.
Brandon Ronfeldt returns as a counselor working with the older children. He will enter his senior year at OHCHS next fall and is looking into engineering programs at various colleges.
Garrett Hudanish will be a senior at OHCHS next fall and is on the track and soccer team. He will move up to work with the older children this summer
Krista Hakala returns for her fourth year. She will be a counselor teaching and working with children who will be entering the fifth, sixth and seventh grades in the fall. She graduates from OHCHS this June and will attend Bentley University in the fall majoring in marketing.
Brandon Cook is returning for his second year as a junior counselor and will once again assist the counselors in the 6- and 7-year-old age groups. Brandon enters OHCHS in the fall as a freshmen.
Joey Gallant also returns as a junior counselor for his second year helping the counselors in the 6- and 7-year-old age group. Joey loves to play baseball and will enter OHCHS in the fall as a freshman.
Ethan Kidd returns to once again work with assisting the counselors and working with children in the 8- and 9-year-old age group. Ethan attends LRMS. Ethan loves to play hockey and act. He is involved in theater at school and is a member of the Western Maine Youth Hockey.
Also returning this year are Jessica DiBiase, who has been a counselor for two years and is returning this summer as assistant summer director. She is a history teacher at Poland Regional High School. Jess is mother to Dimitri, 12, Quinn, 5, and Phaedra, who just turned 1 month.
Heather Hudanish is finishing up at USM as an art major with a minor in women’s studies. She was a counselor for two years and will now take on the role as head counselor and art instructor.
Kelly Howard is returning for her third year as counselor working with children in the 6- and 7-year-old age group. She has been involved in child care for 11 years. Kelly and her husband Dan have two boys, Rhys, 6, and Chace, 4.
Tara Clark is currently the essential skills teacher at New Suncook School in Lovell. Tara was a counselor for the summer program in the past, working with the younger children and will once again take on the same position teaching and supervising the 6- and 7-year-old children.
Deb Ward has been involved in child care for the past 20 years and brings her expertise with her while working as a counselor teaching 8- and 9-year-old girls and boys life skills on land and in the water. Deb is married to Wayne Ward.
Bobbi Scribner recently graduated from Saint Joseph’s College with a degree in elementary education. She will be teaching a variety of life skills to children in the 8- and 9-year-old age group.
Johannah Martin is beginning her 14th year working on the waterfront in Harrison teaching children of all ages how to swim. Her upbeat attitude, infectious smile and love for the water inspire the children to go in the water with great enthusiasm to learn skills through fun swimming games and activities. This summer she will not only teach but will supervise the entire operation of the swim program.
Kaitlin Crockett returns to the waterfront as a WSI. She has been working with children in the ARC swim program for five years. Kaitlin will enter her junior year at the University of Maine majoring in athletic training. She loves the sun and the water and makes learning how to swim a fun experience for all the children.
