Some excitement was caused for a few minutes at the high school game yesterday afternoon by a half dozen or so Bates students walking through the gate and taking seats on the bleachers without paying any admission. They refused to leave the field when requested to do so by the high school management and it was not until an officer was summoned that they went out.
50 years ago, 1960
The Romanow Furniture and Appliance Store will open today in completely remodeled quarters at 199 to 205 Lisbon St.
The opening will feature free orchids to the first 1,000 women, free RCA Victor 45 rpm records for all and gifts for children.
This will be the fourth store in Maine’s largest discount furniture and appliance chain and will be the largest store of its kind in Maine.
The store offers budget terms, free delivery anywhere in New England, free storage of purchases for an unlimited period and free parking anywhere in the city.
25 years ago 1985
The Lewiston School Committee will consider making a proposed $3.1 million downtown elementary school a high priority when it discusses what projects it will submit for the city’s 1986 Capital Improvements Program.
School officials have prepared seven requests, including the downtown school, with a combined potential cost of more that $6.1 million.
