SABATTUS — Thurl A. Hinkley, 71, of Sabattus, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 7, at his home.
He was born in Lisbon Center, Jan. 27, 1939, the son of the late Myra Jones and Leon A. Hinkley. He was educated in Lisbon schools and was married to Loretta Turcotte Tanguay.
He had been employed for 50 years in the concrete plant at Granite Paving Co. and later at Dragon Cement Co. He also worked part time for the Town of Sabattus, taking care of Martin’s Point for years.
He was a great storyteller and had a great sense of direction. He enjoyed ATV riding, guns, target shooting and he loved to build things.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta of Sabattus; three daughters, Gail Hinkley of Louisiana, Cindy Hinkley of Owls Head and Kay Linda Libby and husband, Pete, of Warren; three sons, Leon and his wife, Anne of Sabattus, David and his wife, Marie, of Wales and Jim and his wife, Vickie, of Sabattus; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Richard Tanguay of Sabattus, Paul and his wife, Lisa Tanguay of Wales and Robert Tanguay of Monmouth; and three nieces, Joyce McPhetres, Loreen Gordon Hinkley and Karen Bergeron.
He was predeceased by his mother, father and a brother, Gordon.
