PORTLAND — William B. Kerr, 84, of Main Street, Mexico, died Tuesday, June 8, at the Seaside Nursing Home in Portland.
He was born in Rumford on June 19, 1925, a son of Rupert B. and Irene G. (Roberts) Kerr, and had attended Rumford Schools and Stephen’s High School. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry from April, 1944 to Sept., 1945, serving overseas in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater, including the Rhineland, and he had received the Purple Heart.
He worked in the wood yard at Boise Cascade Paper Company, in Rumford, for over 40 years until retirement.
He was a life member of Napoleon Ouellette Post # 24, American Legion, a former member of the Robert Shand Post # 1641, V.F.W. and Rumford Falls Aerie # 1248, F. O. E. and LeParesseux Snowshoe Club. He loved his garden, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family.
He was married in Mexico on Feb, 22, 1946, to the former Gloria Pearl Hutchinson who resides of Mexico.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Donna Kerr and companion, Robby Lovell, of Mexico, Susan Lavoie and husband, George, of Mexico, Sharon Rabon and husband, Chuck, of Buckfield, and Barbara Newton and husband, Terry, of Burnham; sons, Wayne Kerr of Auburn, Greg Kerr of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Bruce Kerr of Maricopa, Ariz.; brothers, Lawrence Kerr and wife, Edna, of Mexico, Clyde Kerr and wife, Aggie, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Whitney Kerr and wife, Shirley, of Bridgeport, Conn.; sisters, Ruperta Nichols of Mexico, and Lois Hood of Newtown, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
