LEWISTON — Felix P. Belanger, 93, formerly of 60 Wood Street, Lewiston, died Wednesday, June 9,  at the Marshwood Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past two years.

Born in Lewiston on Oct. 8, 1916, he was the son of Joseph and Dulcia Grenier Belanger. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’35.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army as a combat engineer and demolition specialist in Europe, and saw combat in the Rhineland and Central Europe. On April 26, 1946, he married the former Cecile V. Kirouac. Mrs. Belanger passed away on Dec. 7, 2009.

He was employed as a route driver for the F.R. Lepage Bakery for 43 years, retiring in 1978, and then worked at the Bourque’s Market on Pine Street for ten years. A member of Saints Peter and Paul Basilica, Prince of Peace Parish, he was an avid coin collector, and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and tending his vegetable garden. Along with his wife he spent innumerable hours at his grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities.

Survivors include two sons, Felix R. Belanger and his wife, Jill, of Tulsa, Okla., and Richard P. Belanger and his wife, Diane, of Greene; three daughters, Suzanne Lajoie and her husband, Roger, of Auburn, Claire Duplissis and her husband, Rudy, of Lewiston and Diane Cote of Auburn; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four more on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Jean Paul, and two sisters, Louise Courchesne and Lucille Pratt.

The family would like to thank Dr. Seth Gordon and the staff at Marshwood Nursing Home for their compassionate care over the past two years. A special thanks to Jeanine, Tamara and Norm of Marshwood and the staff of Beacon Hospice for their attention to Felix’s comfort these last six months.
