RUMFORD — Leo F. Hamann, 84, of Rumford passed away June 7 at the Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris, where he had been a patient for the past couple months.

He was born June 8, 1925, in Rumford to William and Yvonne (DeRoy) Hamanne. He attended and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1944, and went on to further his education in real estate.

He was a very prominent business man in Rumford for many years. From 1947 to 1984 he owned and operated Hamanne’s Paint Store and Ski Shop and he also owned and operated Hamanne’s Real Estate for 25 years. He was an avid skier, hunter, fisherman, and loved the outdoors. He loved to dance, sing and enjoyed playing the bugle.

He spent the last 45 summers at Worthley Pond with his family. He was a jack of all trades and a master of all. He was a life member of LeParesseux Snowshoe Club and he was also a member of the Realtor’s Association. He was extremely proud of his two grandchildren, Ryan and Tanya. He was married in Rumford on July 17, 1949, to the former Jill G. Bouffard.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jill Hamann of Rumford; two daughters, Lorna Hammanne and Cindy Hamanne, both of Rumford; a son, Don Hamann and wife, Debbie, and their children, Ryan Hamann of Westbrook and Tanya Hamann and her fiancé, Jason McPherson, of Peru; also by his special Sheltie dog, Cora.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Yvonne Hamanne; and brothers, Raymond, William, George and Robert Hamann.

 The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Rumford Hospital for his excellent care. Also the family would like to thank the Ledgeview Nursing Home staff and his very special nurses that took excellent care of him while he was there since March 2010.
