Jenna, a fourth-grade student at Martel Elementary School in Lewiston poses with her Maine Studies project, a scarecrow of Patrick Dempsey riding a bicycle. The annual project, facilitated by fourth-grade teachers Sharon Pattershall and Andrea Bail, encourages students to create a scarecrow of a famous Mainer accompanied by a one-page biography. After choosing their subject, students are given one month to complete the project. With the help of her family, Jenna completed the project in one night. She chose Patrick Dempsey because of his involvement with the Dempsey Challenge.
