WATERFORD — Scott Vlaun of Moose Pond Arts and Ecology in Otisfield will present the 13th annual Sheena Fraser Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, June 14, at the Waterford Library. The topic will be composting techniques.
Vlaun has traveled widely to study and document sustainable agriculture, seed saving and biodiversity conservation and currently manages two acres of diverse market gardens. He has also been active in the establishment of the Alan Day Community Garden in Norway.
The Sheena Fraser garden lectures are supported by an endowment created by the family and friends of Sheena Fraser, a native of England. Fraser’s love of plants and her garden across from the Waterford Library made the endowment a significant tribute after her untimely death.
Each year, books on gardening and related topics are also added to the Sheena Fraser Collection in her memory. The collection in the Waterford Library now contains more than 100 books on landscaping, vegetable gardening, perennials and annuals, including practical advice for both the master and the beginning gardener.
The program is free and the public is invited to attend the lecture.
