 Incidents

June 9, 12:30 p.m. — A Cumberland Street resident complained that they returned home after being gone for a week and discovered that their apartment had been burglarized. Cpl. Doug Maifeld said entry was gained near an air conditioner, after which more than $2,000 worth of belongings were stolen. Among the items were many DVDs, a laptop computer, a tattoo gun, Chanel purse, and more, Maifeld said. Police are seeking help from the public to solve the crime.

June 6, 12:10 a.m. — A 2007 Chevrolet four-door owned and operated by Mindi-Sue Harris, 35, of Rumford, was destroyed after Harris said she swerved to avoid a moose on Isthmus Road between Beliveau Road and St. John’s Cemetery.

Maifeld said the car traveled an estimated 100 feet through woods down an embankment, smashing through small trees before rolling over and stopping just short of entering a brook.

He said Harris, who was injured and hanging upside down, managed to crawl out of the wreckage. Maifeld wasn’t sure if she was treated at the scene by Med-Care Ambulance or taken to Rumford Hospital. The car sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage.
