MEXICO — Two Jay men have been arrested in connection with a vandalism spree at Oakdale Country Club and town recreation park the weekend of June 4 and 5.

Mexico Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said Todd Sullivan, 18, of Bridge Street, Jay, turned himself in to the Mexico Police Department on June 8 after an interview as part of the investigation.

On Saturday, Corey Towers, 20, of Davenport Hill Road, Jay, was arrested on Granite Street.

Both young men were charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of aggravated theft, four counts of aggravated criminal mischief, one count of aggravated mischief, one count of criminal mischief, and two counts of criminal trespass.

Sullivan was released from the Mexico Police Department on $5,000 unsecured bail. Towers was released from the department on $3,000 unsecured bail.

Both are scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Aug. 20.

The charges stem from the near destruction of six golf carts at the Oakdale Country Club, along with damage to the green.

The carts were driven to the Mexico Recreation Park along ATV trails and local streets, where two dugouts were extensively damaged, along with portions of an athletic field.

Hodsdon said estimated damage to the carts and greens was about $25,000. Damages at the Recreation Park were estimated at about $3,000.

Two of the abandoned carts were found near the Mexico Baptist Church, two on the ATV trail near the golf course, and one each at the highway garage and near the Franklin Savings Bank.

Hodsdon said four of the carts are destroyed. The remaining two may be able to be repaired.

He said the department received a number of tips that eventually led to Sullivan and Towers. Mexico officers Brad Gallant and Dustin Broughton also assisted with the investigation.
